Don’t try to fit in

When I watch the documentary of the animal Kingdom, I become glued to the TV. The animals are special and each respect it’s place. Their diversity helps maintain the balance of the animal Kingdom. The carnivores go after their prey, pursue to conquer and I don’t notice any grudge from the members of the family of the prey. I think they understand how things work and they all try to survive. But I don’t see the antelope wanting to become a tiger nor the Leopard a lion nor the Ostrich a Zebra. They know their places, limitations and so respect their hierarchy by staying in their niches. But they develop adaptations for survival.

That diversity is also needed in man’s world, the differences will  Avance our ecosystem. God gave us our differences for these reasons:
No man can be an island
Man’s limitations

Don’t throw it all away, ddon’t try to fit in because the community you find yourself in doesn’t celebrate you. Who will fill your space, the unique thing in you that they need to keep everything in balance? The reason why choristers don’t all have the same voice is to make the music melodious, beautiful and sweet to the ears. The reason you are different is to fulfill purpose, to solve a need, to lend a voice, to help a soul and to keep your heart alive. Be you and everyday work at being a better you.

Heated bottle water and your health

This is not to scare you but to call your attention to caution
What is dioxin?
Dioxins are environmental pollutants. They belong to the so-called “dirty dozen” – a group of dangerous chemicals known as persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Dioxins are of concern because of their highly toxic potential. Experiments have shown they affect a number of organs and systems.

Once dioxins enter the body, they last a long time because of their chemical stability and their ability to be absorbed by fat tissue, where they are then stored in the body. Their half-life in the body is estimated to be 7 to 11 years. In the environment, dioxins tend to accumulate in the food chain. The higher an animal is in the food chain, the higher the concentration of dioxins.

Sources of dioxin contamination
Dioxins are mainly by-products of industrial processes but can also result from natural processes, such as volcanic eruptions and forest fires. Dioxins are unwanted by products of a wide range of manufacturing processes including smelting, chlorine bleaching of paper pulp and the manufacturing of some herbicides and pesticides.

Dioxin in water bottle
People should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car. The heat reacts with the chemicals in the plastic of the bottle which releases dioxin into the water. Dioxin is a toxin increasingly found in breast cancer tissue. Dioxin is a carcinogenic(cancer causing) chemical. I would also advise against bottle water or sachet water left standing under sun for a prolonged period of time.

Heating food in the microwave using plastic containers especially foods that contain fat should be completely avoided.
The combination of fat, high heat and plastic releases dioxin
into the food.
Instead use glass, such as Pyrex or ceramic containers
for heating food… You get the same result, but without the dioxin.

Dr. Halden(John Hopkins researcher) did note that drinking water from plastic bottles that had been exposed to high temperatures could be problematic:
There is another group of chemicals, called phthalates that are sometimes added to plastics to make them flexible and less brittle. Phthalates are environmental contaminants that can exhibit hormone-like behavior by acting as endocrine disruptors in humans and animals. If you heat up plastics, you could increase the leaching of phthalates from the containers into water and food.

The art of Worship

Worship is beautiful and sweet. Worship will change an atmosphere, bring you on your knees and feel your heart with joy. The question is, what is worship? Is worship singing solemn songs and lifting your hands above your head? Is worship screaming and shouting when the song leader says let’s be in the mode of worship? Is worship singing songs that gives us sober reflection? What is worship???

Worship is more than a mood, is a life style, worship is more than singing but singing that is done in spirit and in truth. Worship is beyond songs, it’s about the heart. Worship encompasses your singing, your prayers, your daily activities. Worship is not dependent on the beat of a song, it’s not about the song being slow and solemn. Worship is more.

I’m tempted to leave this floor open and come back later in the day to finish it. I will succumb to the temptation. Share what you think about worship…

The Cacophony of My Emotions

Hide and seek
Jangling over
Wild goose chase
I don’t want to do this anymore

Between the table tennis or lawn tennis
Or is it the cheese or draft
The basket ball or hand ball
I’m in between decisions

Ding doing ding
Like the black smith’s hammer
So much noise in my heart
All I get for dreaming big

Oceans waves
Stronger than rivers peace
Hot boiling oil
Couldn’t be helped by a cup of cold water

Sinking in d sea of despair
My Emotions are tangled
Yet I can’t scream out
Because you won’t hear

It’s not that bad
I hear a voice say
Turned my neck
He has been here all along

Focus is what you need
I will help you if you let me
Take a day at a time
Worry not for tomorrow

Answers are not far
But you need a quiet mind to see
Stop creating the noise
All you need is available.

Alas, I find peace within me
My path is clear
And I dance along
Not because it’s straight anyway.

Two Sides to a Coin

Have u ever seen people deep in argument, almost at each other’s throat, the kind that broke into a bitter fight and you don’t know if they apologized to each other afterwards? Most time those argument started out as an interesting discussion in which they had same views until there started to be a divergence. Parties involved immediately forgot that everyone is allowed his opinion.

Listen this funny story, I was discussing with a friend of mine and we got to a point where I had to use the name of Jesus. I said Jesus’… and she got offended, why should I say Jesus’ that no matter what it remains Jesus and saying Jesus’ was blasphemous. I told her it was alright to say so, it’s just like saying James’ or Thomas’or Rachael’s or Steven’s…  But she wouldn’t agree and got so angry with me for saying that and not withdrawing my statement. Quess what, we went round trying to prove each other’s point through out our reading time, wasted our time and she was so angry and we ended up achieving nothing. I backed down when a friend reminded me of a scripture that said do not get involved in vain arguments for they bring strife. But I had wasted all of that night and it took grace not to hold each other by the throat. The question is whether Jesus’ or Jesus does it change anything?

Many things have different dimensions to them, the only thing that does not is Truth where the constant k=1. Even in solving a mathematical problems there are ways to get to the right answer. That’s the beauty of life. The ability to see things in different ways, through different eyes is what makes us have different designs of clothes and shoes, building, games and gadgets. If we all see things same way there won’t be diversity. So it is when it comes to views. Listen to others views, look at it closely and discuss it in civilized manner.

Everybody has a point even though not all points are relevant to you. We all can’t stand at different point at the same time, so remember, the point from which is seeing is the point from which he is talking. Don’t force your ideology and opinions down people throat if not you are not better than terrorist.

Don’t waste time on things that don’t matter, nor in arguments that won’t put food on your table or clothes on your body nor make you a more respectable individual. Invest your time in things that add value. Some people behind the prison because of argument that resulted in man slaughter.

Be careful, be vigilant because your adversary the devil is moving about like a roaring Lion looking for whom to devour.

Impact of Music

I was walking down the road when I saw this group of little children trying to dance azonto when azonto was in vogue. I couldn’t help smiling. The thing was that these children didn’t learn it from their parents, they learnt it from watching the musicians dance and some would want to show off to their parents. That’s how strong the hold of music is on people. I realize that music stars are more popular than movie celebrities. I see movies and I don’t know the names of some actors but who cares but I remember someone talking about D’banj some years back and I said I didn’t know him and it came as a shocker to that person. I was even called a liar. When I got home I made deliberate effort to know him. When politicians are campaigning they look for the musicians, nobody came knocking on my door to say I see that you are a graduate and you have or possibly beat the minimum requirement of a second class, so I will pay you some 5 million naira to do an intelligible campaign. Who cares as long as I am not some music star.
Some words of Martin Luther King Jr is quoted below
“God has wrought many things out of oppression. He has endowed his creatures with the capacity to create—and from this capacity has flowed the sweet songs of sorrow and joy that have allowed man to cope with his environment and many different situations.

Jazz speaks for life. The Blues tell the story of life’s difficulties, and if you think for a moment, you will realize that they take the hardest realities of life and put them into music, only to come out with some new hope or sense of triumph.

This is triumphant music.

Modern jazz has continued in this tradition, singing the songs of a more complicated urban existence. When life itself offers no order and meaning, the musician creates an order and meaning from the sounds of the earth which flow through his instrument”.

That’s how much music can influence our society. In his time it was jazz now I want to believe it’s hip-hop. Since our music artist are so important in the morality and social wellbeing of our society they should make it their business to sing songs that edify and help the nation.

Most importantly is you, you can take your life in your hands and not in the hands of some musician out there who is more interested in making money than adding any value. Find the right mentors, listen to songs that will help your heart. Inspirational music as well as Christian artist are doing better this days, I will advise to busy yourself with those. Funny when singers disrespect the female gender and ironical how the females dance to it and sing it so how won’t the society believe it. The sequel depravity of this time is added by music. You listen to a music or watch music videos that turn on your secure desire and you would be contemplating rape without you knowing or deceiving and being deceived just to satisfy your desire. Music has its effect on your brain and nerves, find something that will add value to your brain.

Remember I’m here to reach out to you to encourage you to be a better person. Start listening to the right music.

Power of Music

Music can be defined as:
Vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion(according to Google search) or
The science or art of ordering tones or sounds in succession, in combination, and in temporal relationships to produce a composition having unity and continuity or
vocal, instrumental, or mechanical sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony(merriam-websters dictionary).
What I will add to all the definitions above is “which has a great power to influence it’s hearers”.

Some genre of music
R&B and Soul
Children’s music
Easy listening
Hip hop
Caribbean and Caribbean influenced
All this group still have many subgroup, telling you how music has evolved over the years having same relevance and hold on people.
I remember when P-Square’ Forever(if you are my girl, I’ll take you round the world…) came out, I was so carried away that I wanted to get married. That’s what music can do to one. Music can bring you face to face with reality or take you far from reality like that song did to me. Maybe that’s why girls love blues and the men are so carried away with hip hop, *just saying*.
The richest folks in the world are musicians, that tells you how much music can have its hold on people. You can tell a person from the genre of songs he’s taken to. I want to categorically tell you that music makes every generation. It’s sad that the music filling the street in this generation has not encouraged youths and teenagers to face the realities of life, take opportunities and become better. Every new music star thinks until he wears long chains, sag the trousers, wear an oversize T-shirt with some undescribable hair cut, he isn’t a mega star yet. So aspiring music stars follow this trend. It’s the norm and must be followed…

Health benefits of Watermelon

Water melon is an interesting fruit first because it’s a big green ball with red inside which is 92% water and has lots of seeds which could be a major turn off for many who can’t chew nor swallow the seeds. I also discovered that if the fruit is punctured it can’t stay overnight, spoilage is inevitable table. But if we are to look at a wider picture water melon has a lot of health benefits which are; prevention of kidney disorders, high blood pressure, the prevention of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, heat stroke, macular degeneration and impotence.

The long list of healthy or beneficial effects of watermelons are mainly derived from its unique nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and organic compounds. These include significant amounts of vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, fiber, protein, and a very large amount of potassium. Furthermore, they contain vitamin A, vitamin B6, niacin, thiamin, and a wide variety of carotenoids and phytonutrients, lycopene(a carotenoid phytonutrient that’s especially important for our cardiovascular health, and an increasing number of scientists now believe that lycopene is important for bone health as well).

Health benefits of watermelon.
Rich in electrolytes and water content, melons are nature’s gift to beat tropical summer thirst and prevent heat stroke.

Watermelons are very low in calories (just 30 calories per 100 g) and fats yet very rich source of numerous health promoting phyto-nutrients and anti-oxidants that are essential for optimum health. Citrulline which is present in watermelon when consumed, has the ability to block the activity of TNAP (tissue-nonspecific alkaline phosphatase) which makes our fat cells create less fat, and thus helps prevent over-accumulation of body fat.

Watermelon is an excellent source of Vitamin-A, which is a powerful natural anti-oxidants along side also rich in anti-oxidant flavonoids like lycopene, beta-carotene, lutein, zeaxanthin and cryptoxanthin.100 g fresh fruit provides 569 mg or 19% of daily-required levels of this vitamin. It is one of essential vitamin for vision and immunity. Vitamin-A is also required for maintaining healthy mucus membranes and skin. Consumption of natural fruits rich in vitamin-A is known to protect from lung and oral cavity cancers as well as other types of cancers.

Watermelon is an excellent source of carotenoid pigment, lycopene and indeed, superior to raw red tomato. 100 g of fresh melon provides 4532 µg lycopene, whereas this value only 2573 µg for tomatoes. Studies suggest that lycopene offer certain protection to skin from harmful UV rays, to the cardiovascular system and the bones, release calcium into the blood thereby making a person have stronger bones and joints.

Watermelon fruit is a good source of potassium; Potassium is an important component of cell and body fluids that helps controlling heart rate and blood pressure; It thus offers protection against stroke and coronary heart diseases.

Furthermore, it contains a good amount of vitamin-B6 (pyridoxine), thiamin (vitamin B-1), vitamin-C, and manganese. Consumption of foods rich in vitamin-C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenge harmful oxygen-free radicals. Manganese is used by the body as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase.

Total measured antioxidant strength (ORAC value) of watermelon is 142 µmol TE/100 g.

Remember, you don’t need a whole ball to stay healthy. Taking care of your body is taking care of your mind which in turn is taking care of your heart.

Be encouraged.

In a forest, a pregnant deer is about to give birth. She finds a remote grass field near a strong-flowing river. This seems a safe place. Suddenly, labour pains begin. At the same moment, dark clouds gather around above and lightning starts a forest fire! She looks to her left and sees a hunter with his bow extended pointing at her. To her right, she spots a hungry lion approaching her. What can the pregnant deer do? She is in labour!! What will happen? Will the deer survive? Will she give birth to a fawn? Will the fawn survive? Or will everything be burnt by the forest fire? Will she perish to the hunters’ arrow? Will she die a horrible death at the hands of the hungry male lion approaching her? She is constrained by the fire on the one side and the flowing river on the other & boxed in by her natural predators. What does she do? She focuses on giving birth to a new life. The sequence of events that follows are: Lightning strikes & blinds the hunter!!! He releases the arrow which zips past the deer and strikes the hungry lion. It starts to rain heavily, and the forest fire is slowly doused by the rain!!!! The deer gives birth to a healthy fawn. In our life too, there are moments of choice when we are confronted on all sides with negative thoughts and possibilities. Some thoughts are so powerful that they overcome us and overwhelm us. Maybe we can learn from the deer. The priority of the deer, in that given moment, was simply to give birth to a baby. The rest was not in her hands and any action or reaction that changed her focus would have likely resulted in death or disaster. Ask yourself, where is your focus? Where is your faith and hope? In the midst of any storm, do keep it on God always. He will never, never disappoint you. NEVER!!!!! Remember, He neither slumbers nor sleep. Have a blessed day.
