The art of worship 2

A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers. John 4:23 (Amp)

The art of worship is more than singing and dancing. It’s all life encompassing. To be able to worship the Father, it has to be done from your spirit and not some outwardly ritual. The reason why you will be careful not to speak carelessly is that even in talking you want to worship. The reason you would not dress as you like is that your dressing should worship the Father. The reason you won’t revenge is because your heart worships the Father. All the names you call Him in songs plays out in your action.

Worship has to do with total surrender and devotion to God in order to esteem His glory. The yoruba tribe of Western Nigeria call a king “kabiyesi” that is unquestionable, the king’s word is final and they bow their head to the ground in acceptance of his lordship. But that is for a fallible man, we are talking about an infallible God, who knows the end from the beginning and the beginning of an end. Even in singing, when we call Him names, do we mean it, is it with understanding, can we bow our head to the ground for Him, can we lie down for him, can we fall on our knees to esteem Him?

I have problem with “let’s be in the mode of worship”, then we frown our faces, lift our hands, sing solemn and melancholy songs and we say in Jesus name we have worshiped. A worship that has not moved your heart to seek God and bless Him is a ritualistic activity. A worship that has not opened your eyes to see where you have fallen and repent is noise. A worship that is done only “in the mode of worship”  is done in flesh and lies.

When you worship don’t expect the spectacular like a dove descending from heaven, or God speaking in thunder and lightning but believe God for the supernatural.

Worship has several dimensions to it,

the place of singing,

The place of praying

The place of giving

The place of living

He place of loving

The place of quietness

The place of obedience

The place of total surrender.

Worship in place of singing and praying should be done with understanding and in the spirit. For God does not and cannot accept worship done in flesh. If you go and dance today because the praise leader knows how to sing, the drummer beats the drum well and the keyboardist is good with his fingers and then you sleep when it’s time for the word, you just went frenzy which you could as well have done in a club but you didn’t worship. So ask the Holy Spirit today to help you worship in spirit and in truth.
